We were handed our first period with a pad and a warning to hide it. No wonder so many of us relate to our blood as something dirty, shameful, to be gotten through. Ritual is how we reclaim it — how we turn the most ignored days of the month into the most sacred.
Why ritual
Ritual is simply intention plus attention. It tells your body: this matters, you matter, I am here. You don’t need anything elaborate. You need presence.
Simple rituals for your bleed
- Rest on purpose — clear what you can, and let your bleed be your retreat.
- Make a small altar, or simply light a candle, to mark that you’ve crossed a threshold.
- Journal: what am I releasing this cycle? What is ending so something new can begin?
- Give your blood back to the earth — to a plant, the soil — as an old, grounding act of reciprocity.
- Place your hands on your womb and breathe down into her. This alone is medicine.
Across the four phases
Ritual isn’t only for your bleed. Honour spring (follicular) with planning and play, summer (ovulation) with connection and visibility, autumn (luteal) with boundaries and slowing, winter (menstruation) with deep rest. Living this way, your whole month becomes a practice.
A beautiful, practical way to map your cycle and live it.
